Wycombe and Luton fought out a goalless draw at the Causeway Stadium, a result that helped neither side with their respective ambitions.
It is now four games unbeaten for Tony Adams' Wycombe, but all those four games have been drawn and for a bottom of the table side that is not enough.
The home side had the better of what was a fairly uneventful first period. On-loan Reading striker Nathan Tyson should have given his side the lead on 34 minutes when clean through, but Morten Hyldgaard narrowed the angle well to save.
The hosts created other situations that brought Hyldgaard into action, but at half-time the scoreline remained blank.
Premiership referee Steve Bennett, deputising in the Nationwide League for the day, had to retire after sustaining an injury, to great cheers from the crowd.
Chris Coyne had the first effort on goal for the Hatters four minutes into the second half, when his cross-cum-shot went just past the post. Hyldgaard again managed to block a Michael Simpson 20-yard pile driver on 64 minutes to further extend his record of never having conceded a goal for Luton.
Jermaine McSporran spurned a glorious chance with just two minutes remaining as he shot over from three yards after Tyson and Darren Currie had created the chance down the left.
