Luton progressed through to the next round of the LDV Vans Trophy courtesy of a last-gasp strike from substitute Matthew Judge at Stevenage.
Although his spectacular effort came out of the blue, it was no more than Luton deserved on a night in which they dominated proceedings and spurned a host of good chances.
The visitors enjoyed the bulk of the pressure in the first half and came closest to the opener on 33 minutes when Ahmet Brkovic headed at keeper Mark Westhead from close range.
It was a similar story in the second half with Luton still on top and squandering chances as Brkovic saw a shot hit the woodwork on 65 minutes and then saw an effort cleared off the line by Boro defender Lee Flynn.
Stevenage enjoyed chances late on with Peter Costello heading wide and Simon Wormull volleying just past the post, but it was Judge's effort in added time which proved to be the decisive moment of this exciting contest.
