Third division strugglers Southend United clinched their place in the Southern Area semi-final of the LDV Vans Trophy with a surprise 3-0 win over second division Luton Town.
The Shrimpers got off to a great start when they took the lead inside the first two minutes, with the first attack of the game.
Leon Constantine picked up the ball in midfield and fired in a 25-yard shot, which Hatters keeper Marlon Beresford completely misjudged, allowing it to bounce over his body as he dived to his right.
The visitors came close to an equaliser in the 16th minute when Lee Mansell saw an effort deflected away for a corner, but it was the Shrimpers who continued to have the most dangerous forays forward.
In the 27th minute United doubled their lead after a mistake from Luton youngster David Deeney, who fell over the ball 35 yards out, allowing Michael Kightly a free run on goal.
The 17-year-old striker saw his first effort saved but made no mistake from the rebound.
The home side controlled the game in the second period allowing Luton little chance to fightback, and six minutes from time they sealed victory with a third goal.
Steve Clark got free and flighted in an inviting cross for substitute Drewe Broughton to head home to complete a memorable night for Southend.
