Luton Town are through to the next round of the FA Cup after beating Ryman League side Thurrock 3-1 at Kenilworth Road.
The home side have to thank hat-trick hero Adrian Forbes for the win as he was the main difference between the two teams.
Luton manager Mike Newell said afterwards: "I'm happy with the result but once again I'm not really happy with the performance from the lads.
"You have to give some credit to Thurrock because they gave us a fright for the second time." The game started brightly with both teams looking to play passing football.
Thurrock started well the and Luton were not helped when they lost Kevin Foley after only eight minutes when his thigh injury flared up again.
Referee Mike Thorpe set the tone for the match by showing his yellow card three times within the opening quarter of the game after only six fouls and it was no surprise when the first half descended into a scrappy affair with very few chances for either team.
Luton broke the deadlock ten minutes before the break when Forbes scored with his knee from a lucky rebound when Paul Gothard in the Thurrock goal found Forbes' initial close-range drive too hard to hold.
Thurrock got back on level terms with a classic counter-attack through former Luton player Cliff Akurang soon after the restart.
Akurang picked up the loose ball when debutant, Leon Barnett completely missed his shot on goal and ran fully 70 yards unopposed before slotting the ball home.
The home side were stung into action and Thurrock rode their luck as they cleared the ball off the line twice in the following ten minutes.
Forbes scored a fine header midway through the second half and completed his hat-trick with a penalty with three minutes left on the clock.
"I am very pleased with Adrian Forbes. You have to be happy for any player who gets a hat-trick," added Newell.
