Peterborough United gave newly promoted Luton Town a tough baptism to life back in division two by taking maximum points at Kenilworth Road.
Goals by Francis Green, Adam Newton and Andy Clarke earned Barry Fry's men a 3-2 win, substitutes Dean Crowe and Ahmet Brkovic pulling goals back for Luton.
Green opened the scoring after just one minute and 25 seconds with a terrific volley from the edge of the area that rocketed into the top corner of a helpless Carl Emberson's goal.
Newton, a summer signing from West Ham then doubled the lead after 29 minutes, escaping marker Alan Kimble to meet Green's cross with a diving header.
Emberson then saved at Clarke's feet to prevent Luton going into the break three down.
Crowe pulled a goal back two minutes into the second half with an emphatic finish into the roof or the net after exchanging passes with Steve Howard.
Peterborough scored a third on 68 minutes, Clarke stole in front of Chris Coyne to head in Helgi Danielsson's cross.
Luton finished the game with some spirit but Brkovic's tap-in from Andrew Fotiadis' low cross was too little too late.
Posh boss Barry Fry commented: "We could have been 4-0 up at half time and gone home.
"They came back but I thought we always looked dangerous on the break."
