Youngster Tyler Denton sends Leeds through at Luton
Leeds were given a few scares by Sky Bet League Two Luton but a first-half goal from Tyler Denton was enough to see the Whites progress to the EFL Cup third round with a 1-0 win at Kenilworth Road.
The hosts bossed possession in the early stages, Olly Lee and Cameron McGeehan putting efforts from range over the top.
Stuart Dallas saw his shot deflected wide, before Leeds were in front with their first shot on target, debutant Denton producing a wonderful finish with the outside of his left foot from 20 yards after 23 minutes.
Kemar Roofe came close to a second, hooking his acrobatic volley against the crossbar, with Christian Walton saving well from Dallas' fierce follow up.
Jack Marriott had a powerful drive tipped over the bar by goalkeeper Marco Silvestri, while Town stopper Walton blocked bravely at the feet of Souleymane Doukara.
Hatters should have been level after 39 minutes, Marriott racing away to beat Silvestri but faced with an open goal he stabbed off target.
After the break, McGeehan forced Silvestri into a flying save, with the keeper then having to touch the same player's low effort behind.
Marriott put another golden chance wide when faced with just Silvestri to beat, while Leeds substitute Alex Mowatt was denied by Walton.
McGeehan shot over from the edge of the box, while Walton prevented Roofe adding an unfair gloss to the scoreline with a fine close-range stop in injury-time.
