"I have been involved with the club for many years and it has been an honour to be this club's chairman. I would like to take this opportunity to wish it every success in the future." (quoted from Sporting Life).
His reign at Luton will not be remembered fondly by Luton fans; despite us having Evans, Kohler and Gurney amongst our previous chairmen, he still managed to make himself unpopular, mainly because of the lack of progress on the new ground. Last month's useless financial statement didn't exactly help things. Although he has been greeted with chants for a few weeks now, Tomlins' departure is still very much out of the blue. His resignation will probably be for the good in the long term, but it does nothing at this point in time to aid the chaotic situation at the club at the moment, on and off the pitch. Survival in the Championship is now all but out of reach, and an enquiry at the club by the FA is ongoing, so there could be more turbulent times ahead for Luton. Who knows what will happen next at this club?
Tomlins stands down as chairman
The former chairman, 56 (apparently), has left during an ongoing enquiry into the club by the FA, saying, "There has been too much disruption surrounding the club in recent months and I feel it is appropriate for me to stand down at this time.
