Blackwell has told the Luton News, "It's a difficult one because we've got big games coming up left, right and centre.
"We go to Elland Road on Saturday and they (Leeds) are currently on a roll.
"When you look at some of our players, Dave Edwards has played something like 12 games in six weeks.
"He's played week in week out during the pre-season and was also away with Wales last week so that's something I will have to look at.
"But the last thing I want is to be disrespectful to a Premier League club. We want to put out a team, but we also have to look at the bigger picture.
"We'll have a look at how the players have come through the Gillingham game and make a decision after that."
So it is thought that Dave Edwards, Darren Currie and Paul Furlong are the players who will make way for the Cup match. Edwards could be replaced in the central of midfield by Steve Robinson, who started in the first match of the season, and Robinson is may to partner Spring in central midfield. However, there may also be a place in the line-up for Don Hutchinson, who has made substitute appearances but is yet to start a match for Luton. Ahmet Brkovic and Dean Morgan may also be pushing for the place likely to be vacated by Darren Currie, whose wife has apparently gone into labour, so good luck to them. David Bell is likely to start, having only just played his first match for Luton on Saturday. So Bell and Spring should keep their places, and Hutchinson or Robinson in midfield, or maybe even both. Up front, because of injuries to Paul Peschisolido (I hate typing that) and Sam Parkin, there are very few fit strikers to choose from. Drew Talbot has looked good so far this season, and should keep his place in the team. Paul Furlong and Calvin Andrew will be competing for the second place up front, and Dean Morgan may be in contention as well. However, Andrew should start, because Furlong may need a rest, and Blackwell doesn't seem to want to play Morgan, and very few Luton fans would argue with him on that decision. Last time against Dagenham, Blackwell rotated a lot of players so that it was mostly last season's lot that started. He may yet do that again.
Possible Team:
Forde (GK), Goodall (or maybe Emanuel) (DL), Jackson (DR), Coyne (DC), Perry (or Keane) (DC), Bell (ML), Brkovic (please) (MR), Spring (MC), Hutchinson (MC), Talbot (SC), Andrew (SC)
Subs: A few old fogies, some players who aren't quite good enough for the first team and no sub goalkeeper. I can't even predict the team with confidence, so there is no chance with the substitutes.
For Sunderland, Kieran Richardson and Dean Whitehead will miss this match because they are both injured, and ex-Luton player Carlos Edwards will also not feature for recently promoted Sunderland. Edwards picked up an injury a few games back against Birmingham City, so the Luton fans who turn up to the match won't be able to see the familiar sight of Edwards going on a brilliant run from his own half and crossing the ball into the Kenilworth Road stand. Ex-Hatters trainee Daryl Murphy may feature as well. Because of the injuries, Roy Keane is thought to be unlikely to make considerable changes to his team.
