Money, 54, left Newcastle United as their Academy Director yesterday to join Luton, who he also played for during the 1982-83 season, playing 44 matches and scoring 1 goal. Money has previously managed Scunthorpe United and Walsall in England, as well as AIK and Vasteras in Sweden and Newcastle United Jets in Australia. His best achievement in his managerial career may well be guiding Walsall to the League Two title in 2006-07 with a team built around a sturdy defence that conceded just 34 goals in 46 games. Hopefully some of that magic will rub off on Luton - with the likes of Pilkington and Tyler around we certainly have the personnel for such an impressive record.
As well as the appointment of Richard Money, former Cambridge United manager Gary Brabin has been appointed as the new chief scout for Luton Town. Brabin guided Cambridge to the Blue Square Premier play-off final last season, where they were denied a place in the Football League by Torquay United. Despite this, and despite being named the Conference Manager of the Season, he was sacked in July 2009 as manager, and now joins Luton in his first job since leaving Cambridge. On our position and our aims this season, Brabin commented:
"There's only one way and that's the top spot. We have everything to play for - Oxford have got to come to us next Spring and that's not going to be easy for them, we'll be making sure of that! There's a long way to go in this season and I want to be celebrating come May. This place is going to be rocking come the end of season!"
Alan Neilson will stay at the club as assistant manager, having done a great job as caretaker manager since the departure of Mick Harford, and Kevin Watson will also remain at the club in a coaching capacity.
