Foley, 22, made 166 appearances for Luton in his career at Kenilworth Road, scoring 5 goals in the process. He has also made appearances for the Ireland U-21 team, but the Luton born defender has yet to appear for his country properly, despite being tipped to do so in the future. He made his first appearance in 2002 in one of those ridiculous LDV Vans matches, but it wasn't until 2003, when Newell came to the helm, that Foley started to shine. He put in a number of fine performances and scored his first ever goal against Yeovil Town in the League Cup First Round, and he then played a key part in the promotion winning team the next season, making 41 appearances for the club. He scored twice in that season, including one crucial goal at Hartlepool. His performances weren't quite as impressive in the Championship for Luton, but he still established himself as quite a key player for the side, and certainly wasn't one of the reasons that we got relegated last season.
Foley is likely to go straight into the Wolves Carling Cup squad that will face Bradford City on Wednesday. The fee is undisclosed, but is thought to be around £700,000, rising to £1m. The news may be particularly worrying for Luton fans as, after losing Barnett to West Bromwich Albion, we are particularly short on defenders. Luton only have two centre-backs, and now only two right-backs, in Richard Jackson and Keith Keane. Surely Blackwell's next priority should be to sign a defender in time for the Swindon match next Saturday. Thanks Kevin Foley, and good luck in your time at Wolves.
