It was thought that both players would miss the end of the season, but Nicholls' appearance in last Saturday's match and his appearance for the reserves midweek means that he may be in line for a start due to improved fitness. Foley has also been in training the last two days and is available. However, Chris Coyne, Marcus Heikkinen and Russell Perrett are all still injured, so Steve Howard will probably start in defence again. Rowan Vine and Warren Feeney are therefore both likely to start up front after Mike Newell ruled himself out. Newell had a bet with Alan Shearer over who would play the longest when they were both at Blackburn, but Newell won't start himself just to win the bet. Although he'd probably be more likely to hit the target than Warren Feeney.
John McGreal is a big doubt for Burnley due to a back injury. Phil Bardsley and Chris McCann may also miss out, and Wayne Thomas and keeper Danny Coyne are likely to miss out too.
