Luton were facing a severe injury crisis, with only Kevin Foley match fit out of the first choice defence, and with many of the reserve defenders also injured. However, Barnett's red card which he picked up on Tuesday night has now been rescinded. Clive Penton sent off Barnett, 20 (pictured in action earlier this season) after adjudging him to have brought down Callum Willock with a professional foul at the end of Luton's victory over Brentford. Leroy Rosenior, the Brentford manager, had said himself that the sending off was incorrect and that the referee was useless.
The verdict now means that Luton's crisis has now been eased slightly. Newell is still aiming to bring in an unnamed centre-half on a season long loan, but if he fails then we are still relying on Marcus Heikkinen and Chris Coyne to gain fitness before the Albion clash. Lewis Emanuel is likely to play as a makeshift full-back instead of the injured Sol Davis.
